- Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl.
- Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (180°C).
- Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the spicy onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
