Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste for spiciness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

  1. Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  3. Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (180°C).
  6. Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  8. Serve the spicy onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
