Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck cleaned and patted dry
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • green onions sliced and cilantro for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, ginger, and garlic to create a marinade.
  3. Score the duck skin with a sharp knife to help the marinade penetrate the meat.
  4. Rub the marinade all over the duck, making sure to coat it evenly.
  5. Place the duck on a roasting pan and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Roast the duck in the preheated oven for about 1.5 to 2 hours, basting with the drippings every 30 minutes.
  7. The duck is done when the skin is crispy and golden brown, and the meat is tender and cooked through.
  8. Once done, remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before carving.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions and cilantro before serving.
  10. Enjoy!
