Shekerbura is a traditional Azerbaijani pastry often made during the Novruz holiday. It is a sweet pastry filled with a mixture of ground nuts, sugar, and spices such as cardamom or cinnamon. The pastry is usually shaped like a half-moon or triangle and is typically baked until golden brown. It’s delicious and perfect for celebrating special occasions!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup milk lukewarm
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup ground walnuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, milk, and sugar. Knead the dough until smooth. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the ground walnuts, cardamom, and cinnamon to make the filling.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out circles using a round cookie cutter or a glass.
  5. Place a spoonful of the walnut filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork.
  6. Place the Shekerbura on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  8. Enjoy!
