- 1/2 cup split yellow lentils (moong dal)

- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Add the drained rice and lentils to the pot and mix everything together.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes or until the rice and lentils are cooked.
- Check for seasoning and adjust if needed.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
