Ingredients
- 1 pound shredded phyllo dough (kataifi)
- 1/2 pound sweet cheese (such as mozzarella or akawi)
- 1/2 pound unsalted butter melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- Crushed pistachios or other nuts for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a baking dish with some of the melted butter.
- Spread half of the shredded phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Place the sweet cheese evenly over the shredded phyllo dough.
- Cover the cheese with the remaining shredded phyllo dough.
- Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar dissolves to make the syrup.
- Once the Kanafeh is done, pour the sugar syrup over it while it’s still hot.
- Garnish with crushed pistachios or other nuts.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
