Kanafeh

Kanafeh is a delicious Middle Eastern dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, sweet cheese, and sugar syrup. It's often topped with crushed pistachios or other nuts.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound shredded phyllo dough (kataifi)
  • 1/2 pound sweet cheese (such as mozzarella or akawi)
  • 1/2 pound unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Crushed pistachios or other nuts for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with some of the melted butter.
  3. Spread half of the shredded phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Place the sweet cheese evenly over the shredded phyllo dough.
  5. Cover the cheese with the remaining shredded phyllo dough.
  6. Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar dissolves to make the syrup.
  9. Once the Kanafeh is done, pour the sugar syrup over it while it's still hot.
  10. Garnish with crushed pistachios or other nuts.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!
