Filipino Beef Stir Fry, also known as Bistek, is a popular Filipino dish made with thinly sliced beef marinated in soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon or lime juice), and other seasonings. It is typically stir-fried with onions and served over rice.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb beef thinly sliced (such as sirloin or flank steak)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon or lime juice)
  • 1 large onion sliced into rings
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt to taste
  • green onions sliced for garnish (optional)

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, calamansi juice, minced garlic, and ground black pepper. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, making sure the beef is well coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, heat the cooking oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are translucent.
  3. Add the marinated beef to the pan, reserving the marinade. Cook the beef until browned, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and the reserved marinade. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the beef is tender.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed.
  6. Serve the Filipino Beef Stir Fry hot over steamed rice. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired.
