Ingredients
- 500 g pork shoulder cubed
- 500 g beef chuck cubed
- 2 onions sliced
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tablespoon allspice berries
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoon flour
- Mashed potatoes for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
- In a large ovenproof pot, layer the pork and beef cubes with sliced onions. Season each layer with salt, pepper, and allspice.
- Add the bay leaves on top of the meat.
- Pour the water over the meat mixture.
- Cover the pot with a lid and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for about 2.5-3 hours, or until the meat is tender.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux.
- Once the meat is cooked, remove the pot from the oven. Stir in the roux mixture to thicken the sauce.
- Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve the Karjalanpaisti hot with mashed potatoes.
