Gyeongju bread is a popular South Korean street food snack originating from the city of Gyeongju. It is a small, sweet pastry filled with red bean paste and often coated with sesame seeds. The bread has a soft and fluffy texture with a slightly sweet flavor.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup red bean paste
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the milk and water to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and flatten each portion into a small disc.
  5. Place a spoonful of red bean paste in the center of each dough disc.
  6. Fold the dough over the red bean paste and pinch the edges to seal.
  7. Roll each filled dough ball in sesame seeds (optional).
  8. Place the filled dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
  10. Let the Gyeongju bread cool slightly before serving.
