Kuih Bahulu is a traditional Malaysian baked sponge cake made with simple ingredients like eggs, sugar, and flour. It has a light and fluffy texture, with a slightly sweet and aromatic flavor.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound all-purpose flour
  • 1 pound sugar
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease your Kuih Bahulu molds with a little butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until well combined and slightly frothy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and melted butter to the egg mixture and mix well.
  4. Sift the flour and baking powder into the wet ingredients and fold in gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared molds, filling them about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the Kuih Bahulu turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before removing from the molds.
  8. Serve and enjoy.
