Galuste cu prune (Plum dumplings)

Galuste cu prune (Plum dumplings) is a traditional Romanian dessert that consists of plum-filled dumplings.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Pinch salt
  • 12 plums pitted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the eggs and milk. Mix until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour, a little at a time, until it becomes manageable.
  2. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin sheet, about 1/8 inch thick. Then cut the dough into small squares, approximately 2 inches by 2 inches.
  3. Place a plum in the center of each dough square. Sprinkle a bit of sugar and cinnamon onto each plum.
  4. Fold the dough over the plum, sealing it well. Shape it into a small dumpling, making sure there are no openings where the plum could escape during cooking.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface.
  6. Once cooked, remove the dumplings from the pot using a slotted spoon and allow them to drain.
  7. Optional: Dust the Galuste cu prune with powdered sugar before serving for a touch of sweetness.
