Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cannellini beans cooked or Great Northern beans
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Parsley or dill for garnish, optional

Method

  1. Start by cooking the white beans. You can either use canned beans or cook them from scratch according to the package instructions. Make sure the beans are fully cooked and tender.
  2. Once the beans are cooked, drain them and let them cool slightly.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, add the cooked beans, minced garlic, and finely chopped onion.
  4. Using a fork or a potato masher, begin mashing the beans until they reach a smooth and creamy consistency. If you prefer a chunkier texture, you can leave some beans partially mashed.
  5. Gradually drizzle in the olive oil while mashing, until the mixture becomes well combined and creamy.
  6. Squeeze in the juice of one lemon and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
  7. Taste the Fasole batuta and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more garlic, lemon juice, or any other seasonings according to your preference.
  8. Once the Fasole batuta is ready, transfer it to a serving dish. You can garnish it with some fresh herbs, if desired.
  9. Serve the Fasole batuta chilled or at room temperature with fresh vegetables, bread, or as a side dish with your favorite meal.
