Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
- 4 pears firm, peeled, cored, and halves
- 1 sheet of puff pastry thawed

- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet, heat the sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns into a caramel color.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and add the butter, stirring constantly until it’s melted and combined.
- Arrange the pear halves on top of the caramel in a circular pattern.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and place it on top of the pears, tucking in the edges around the fruit.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
- Let the tarte cool for 5 minutes, then place a large plate over the skillet and carefully invert the tarte onto the plate.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream of choice , if desired.
