Caramel custard
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns into a golden caramel. Be careful not to burn the sugar.
- Quickly pour the caramel into 4 ramekins, swirling each one to evenly coat the bottom. Set aside to cool and harden.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture into the ramekins over the hardened caramel.
- Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove from the oven and let the custards cool. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edge of each ramekin and invert the custard onto a plate, allowing the caramel to flow over the top.
- Enjoy!
