Classic Caprese Salad with Balsamic Glaze

Classic Caprese Salad with Balsamic Glaze

It’s hard to beat the classic flavor combination of fresh tomatoes, Mozzarella cheese, and basil. However, this version kicks things up a notch with the addition of a rich balsamic glaze. When combined with a really good quality extra virgin olive oil, this is all you need to make this classic dish shine.

Instructions

  • Directions:
  • Add a slice of tomato to four salad plates. Top each slice of tomato with a slice of fresh Mozzarella and a basil leaf. Repeat this pattern until you’ve added 1 tomato and approximately 3 oz. of Mozzarella to each plate. Finish each arrangement with a tomato slice on top. Set aside.
  • To make the balsamic glaze, heat one cup balsamic vinegar over medium-high heat until it begins to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the liquid is reduced to about 1/3 of its original volume, stirring continually. When the liquid becomes thick and syrupy, it is ready to use.
  • Remove from heat and cool slightly. Drizzle the olive oil on top of each salad, followed by the warm balsamic glaze. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste, and garnish with additional sprigs of fresh basil, if desired, and serve immediately. Enjoy!
