Stuffed Meaty Onions
Ingredients
- 4 large onions
- 1 lb ground beef (or any ground meat of your choice)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut off the tops of the onions and peel them. Carefully hollow out the onions, leaving a few outer layers intact. Chop the onion flesh and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, and the chopped onion flesh.
- Fill each hollowed out onion with the meat mixture, packing it down lightly.
- Place the stuffed onions in a baking dish and pour the tomato sauce over them. Cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for about 45 minutes, then remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve the Stuffed Meaty Onions hot and enjoy!
