Exactly what I was looking for -- plenty of flavor without being overpowering.Just received this, used a pack to make my own miso soup. The dry packs have a fresh smell, with definite but mild notes of fish — not surprising, as it contains 4 different kinds of dried fish. I was a little worried that it might stink up the kitchen, but no worries. It does smell "fishy", but not unpleasantly or overpoweringly so. The resulting soup was good, the only problem being that I greatly underestimated how much the dried seaweed (a separate product) would expand — be careful with that stuff, but the dashi packs themselves were just what I was looking for; I anticipate ordering this again before too long, because I really like miso soup, and I'll probably make some other soups with it as well.

Tastes good with clean ingredients. After the dashi I used to buy stopped being available. Frustrated, I looked for a long time to find a product that has no MSG, alcohol, chemicals or other ingredients I don't consider healthy to replace it with. This is not the same as the bottled dashi I was buying but has good flavor, no ingredients that I know of that I find objectionable, and is very easy to use. I just open the packets (not in plastic which I am pleased about) and put the powder right into the water. If I need to eat something quickly, I throw in some sweet potato noodles (I can't eat gluten) and maybe a handful of bonito flakes and have a hot meal. If I have time I can add vegetables or non-gluten grain or whatever I want. Sometimes I will add some coconut aminos (I like Big Tree Coco Aminos) or other naturally-brewed shoyu, ginger, garlic to vary the flavor. I'm glad I found this!
Update: I tried a couple of other similar dashi powder products. One, with almost the same ingredients, tasted way too salty, ruining a meal. The other was sneaky, advertising only 8 simple ingredients when it actually had more than twice that, including, salt, sugar, yeast, rapeseed oil, soy and dextrin in it — terrible for my health. The bag stunk of yeast.
So I am happy to stick with this one, which seems to have the cleanest and best balanced ingredients.

Great soup stock! A+Love it! I used it to make my miso soup and it is tasty. I used 8 to 12 cups of waters with 2 packages and it works perfect. I do not have to add salt to my miso soups at all. Great price for the quantity of packages.

Easy to use and tastes goodGreat for making dashi broth!
Easy to store and portioned well. Reminds me of tea bags. I use 2 pouches to steep in hot water to prep for miso soup and Korean stews. We like how it enhances the flavor of soups and stews over plain water.
