The colour is vibrant on both varieties, and the taste is even more vibrant and potent. They're also extremely aromatic, seal them tightly or else they'll make your whole spice cabinet smell like them.

These were very good Szechuan "peppercorns", and the green ones were new to me.
I feel impelled to add some info based upon another review complaining about all-husks-and-no-peppercorns lest others be similarly confused.
Szechuan peppercorns are not pepper — we just call them that. Sort of like chilis are not pepper. Botanically, they're related to citrus.
What you use in cooking is the pericarp of the fruit (the 'husk' thing). That has the flavor magic. Not the hard black stony seed inside. That is flavorless and eating it is like chomping on very hard grit. Sort of like saying 'I ordered some dried peaches, but there were no pits! Just fruits!". Indeed, one of the hassles of Szechuan pepper is sifting through and discarding any seeds, so if one got a bag full of 'only husks' then that is a happy day indeed!

Very fresh, the packaging was flawless and it arrived in perfect condition. The spice is well pronounced and it has a robust flavor profile, it's some of the best szechuan I've had.
