This is my favorite chili powder by far. I even bring it overseas because I have not found another blend that tastes quite the same. There is something about this specific mix that makes it better than when I try to combine the ingredients myself. The balance of chili pepper, salt, garlic, and spices is just right, giving it a deep, smoky, and slightly earthy flavor that works perfectly in chili, soups, and stews.
It adds richness without overwhelming heat and blends smoothly into sauces or marinades. The texture is fine and consistent, and the addition of silicon dioxide keeps it free flowing, which makes it easy to measure and mix evenly. I appreciate that the flavor holds up even after long storage, and the large 20-ounce container lasts a long time.
Whether for cooking at home or seasoning dishes while abroad, this has become a staple in my kitchen. It is the kind of product that quietly outperforms everything else and makes you realize that the perfect spice mix sometimes cannot be replicated by hand.
Is this the Best Value? –
There is no reason to seek out any other. I have tried various brands costing more and less. At the end of the day, you want consistency and great flavor. McCormick's tows all the lines with flavor, aroma, strength, etc… It is nearly the best chili powder out there and the price is always right.
Proper Heat Level – Good Strength – Highly Recommended

I've been using McCormick Dark Chili Powder (7.5 oz) for a while now, and it's honestly a good purchase. I know its recommended you buy the larger pepper flakes and then grind for freshness and taste, but I just don't have the patience for that.
For a pre-ground chili powder, the flavor is pretty good and its not too spicy either. It adds just a tiny little heat to all your dishes, so you might need something else if you really want to feel the burn. Itโs way more cost-effective than those tiny jars at the store, especially if you cook a lot. Plus, it stays fresh for a long time thanks and I have had no issues with the potency or flavor decreased like with other brands.
GREAT Chili Powder — Super Value! –
I like the quality and taste of the dark chili. The McCormick brand has a smell and flavor that is stronger in flavor than other brands Iโve tried previously. The color is very dark. It has a bit of spice, but not too strong and overpowering when used in chili and stews.
