Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
All

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Slowly add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a clean bowl, cover with a tea towel, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into two portions – one slightly larger than the other.
  7. Shape the larger portion into a ball and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Shape the smaller portion into a smaller ball and place it on top of the larger one, pressing down slightly to stick them together.
  9. Cover the loaf with a tea towel and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Allow the loaf to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
  12. Enjoy!
