Ful medames is a traditional Middle Eastern dish made with cooked fava beans, typically seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and various spices like cumin and paprika. It's often served for breakfast and is popular in countries like Egypt, Sudan, and Lebanon.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cans fava beans cooked, (15 oz each)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional toppings:
  • parsley chopped
  • tomatoes diced
  • onions chopped
  • hard-boiled eggs

Method
 

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the cooked fava beans with their liquid to the saucepan and stir to combine.
  4. Season with cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
  5. Lower the heat and let the beans simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice.
  7. Serve the ful medames warm, topped with your choice of parsley, tomatoes, onions, and/or hard-boiled eggs.
  8. Enjoy!
