- Dal (Lentil Soup):
- Rinse the lentils in water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, combine the lentils, water, onion, garlic, ginger, tomato, turmeric, cumin, and coriander powder.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and cooked through.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
- Bhat (Rice):
- Rinse the rice in water until the water runs clear.
- In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rice, water, and salt.
- Cook the rice according to the instructions for your rice cooker or on the stovetop until the rice is fluffy and cooked through.
- Serve the dal and bhat together with some fresh vegetables, pickles, and maybe some grilled meat or fish for a complete Nepalese meal. Enjoy!
