Dal (Lentil Soup):
Rinse the lentils in water until the water runs clear.
In a large pot, combine the lentils, water, onion, garlic, ginger, tomato, turmeric, cumin, and coriander powder.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and cooked through.
Season with salt to taste.
Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Bhat (Rice):
Rinse the rice in water until the water runs clear.
In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rice, water, and salt.
Cook the rice according to the instructions for your rice cooker or on the stovetop until the rice is fluffy and cooked through.
Serve the dal and bhat together with some fresh vegetables, pickles, and maybe some grilled meat or fish for a complete Nepalese meal. Enjoy!
