Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
All

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a long roll.
  7. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake the hoagie rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Let the rolls cool on a wire rack before slicing and using them for your favorite sandwiches.
  10. Enjoy!
