Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin or use individual tart molds.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 4 equal squares. Line each muffin cup or tart mold with the pastry squares, pressing them gently to fit the shape.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly pour in the sugar syrup while continuously whisking.
  5. Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pastry cups, filling them about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is set and the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the Pastel de Nata cool slightly before serving. Optionally, sprinkle with ground cinnamon before serving.
