Panzarotti

Panzarotti is a delicious Italian fried or baked turnover filled with cheese, tomato sauce, and other ingredients like meats or vegetables. It’s similar to a calzone or a fried pizza pocket.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
Your choice of fillings:
  • sausage cooked
  • pepperoni
  • mushrooms
  • bell peppers
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Preheat your deep fryer or a pot with oil to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion out into a circle.
  3. On one half of each dough circle, layer cheese, tomato sauce, and your choice of fillings, leaving a border around the edge.
  4. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal.
  5. Crimp the edges with a fork to ensure they are well sealed.
  6. Carefully lower each panzarotti into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove from the oil and let drain on paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
