Chicken and waffles is a delicious dish that combines crispy fried chicken and fluffy waffles. It’s a wonderful combination of savory and sweet flavors. Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds chicken (bone-in, skin-on pieces like thighs and drumsticks)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 cups waffle mix (follow the instructions on the package to prepare the batter)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Butter (for serving)

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, and dried oregano to make the seasoned flour mixture.
  2. Dip each piece of chicken into the buttermilk, then coat it in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to evenly coat all sides.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to about 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the chicken pieces.
  4. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil and fry them for about 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Once the chicken is cooked, place it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil.
  6. While the chicken is frying, prepare the waffle batter according to the instructions on the package.
  7. Preheat your waffle iron and cook the waffles until they are golden and crispy.
  8. To serve, place a piece of fried chicken on top of a warm waffle. Add a pat of butter on top and drizzle with maple syrup.
  9. Repeat the process for the remaining chicken and waffles.
