Fuqi feipian
Fuqi feipian is a popular Sichuan dish from China. It’s made with thinly sliced beef or beef offal, tossed in a spicy and numbing sauce, typically made with Sichuan peppercorns, chili oil, garlic, and other flavorful ingredients.
- 1 pound beef ((such as flank steak or beef offal))
- 2 tablespoons Sichuan peppercorns
- 4 tablespoons chili oil
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon black vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cucumber (thinly sliced)
- 1/2 cup roasted peanuts (crushed)
- Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
- Start by boiling the beef in a pot of water until cooked through. This should take around 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, remove the beef from the pot and let it cool before slicing it thinly.
- In a small skillet, dry toast the Sichuan peppercorns over medium heat for a few minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and grind them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chili oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, black vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, and salt. Mix well until the sauce is thoroughly combined.
- Place the sliced beef in a large bowl and pour the sauce over it. Gently toss the beef slices until they are well coated with the sauce.
- To serve, arrange the sliced beef on a serving platter. Top with thinly sliced cucumber and crushed peanuts. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
