Ingredients
- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 pound flank steak sliced into thin strips
- 1 green bell pepper sliced
- 1 red bell pepper sliced
- 1/2 white onion sliced
- 1 cup shredded Oaxaca or Monterey Jack cheese
- 4 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina, salt, and warm water. Mix well until a smooth dough forms.
- Divide the dough into four equal pieces and shape them into oblong-shaped disks.
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the vegetable oil. Once hot, add the masa dough disks and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the flank steak and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the bell peppers and onion. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
- On each huarache, sprinkle a generous amount of cheese, followed by the cooked steak, bacon, and sautéed peppers and onions.
- Place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
