Steamed Red Snapper is a popular seafood dish that is made by steaming the whole red snapper fish with a variety of ingredients such as ginger, garlic, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, and scallions.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 whole Red Snapper scaled and gutted
  • 1 tablespoon ginger sliced into thin strips
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 stalks scallions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium carrot thinly sliced

Method
 

  1. Rinse the Red Snapper inside and out with cold water, pat dry with paper towels, and place it on a plate or shallow dish that will fit inside your steamer basket.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the ginger, garlic, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, sugar, and cornstarch.
  3. Pour the sauce over the Red Snapper, making sure to coat it well on both sides.
  4. Scatter the scallions and carrots over the top of the fish.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or skillet until it is hot but not smoking, then pour it over the fish.
  6. Place the plate or dish with the fish into the steamer basket.
  7. Steam the fish over high heat for 10-15 minutes, until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  8. Carefully remove the plate or dish from the steamer and transfer it to a serving platter.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables.
