Chinese BBQ Pork-Char Siu
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds pork shoulder cut into strips
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
- 2 tablespoons sherry
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Red food coloring optional
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, Chinese five spice powder, sherry, garlic, and vegetable oil. If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring to achieve the traditional red color of char siu.
- Add the pork strips to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
- Remove the pork strips from the marinade, shaking off any excess sauce. Place them on the wire rack and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Switch the oven to broil and move the rack up to the top position. Broil the pork strips for 2-3 minutes, or until the edges are slightly charred.
- Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
- Enjoy!
