Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes (800g)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  8. Serve the tomato sauce over your favorite pasta or use it as a base for pizza or other dishes.
