Method
- Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
- Let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve the tomato sauce over your favorite pasta or use it as a base for pizza or other dishes.
