Hard dough bread is a type of bread popular in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries. It is known for its dense texture and slightly sweet flavor. Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions.
  7. Shape each portion into a round loaf and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Cover the loaves with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Brush the loaves with melted butter.
  11. Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  12. Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving.
  13. Enjoy!

Notes

Prepared dough could be baked in bread maker instead of a stove.
