Method
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually add the water to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Add more water if needed to achieve the right consistency.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into an elongated dumpling shape.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (180°C).
- Carefully place the dumplings into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the dumplings for about 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried dumplings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the Jamaican Festival Fry warm with your favorite dipping sauce, honey, or jam.
