Jamaican Sorrel Drink is a popular beverage made from the sepals of the sorrel plant, also known as hibiscus sabdariffa. It is typically enjoyed during the holiday season in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries. The drink has a deep red color and a unique tart flavor that is both refreshing and festive.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pack sorrel
  • 1 root ginger
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 gallon water
  • 3 seeds allspice (also known as pimento)-Optional

Method
 

  1. Add sorrel petals (dried or fresh) and a piece of ginger to pot of water. Boil until water becomes red.
    Allow to stand and cool for 24 hours then strain with cheesecloth.
    Sweetened with sugar and bottle.
    Can add a few seeds of allspice/pimento to the bottle to give a spicy flavour.
  2. Refrigerate and serve cold.
