In a large mixing bowl, combine the semolina, flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
Gradually add the melted butter or vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
Slowly pour in the orange blossom water while kneading the dough until it forms a smooth and pliable consistency.
In a separate bowl, combine the chopped dates, cinnamon, and cloves. Mix well to create a sweet filling.
Divide the dough into small balls and flatten each one into a small disc shape. Place a spoonful of the date filling in the center of each disc.
Fold and shape the dough around the filling to form diamond or oval-shaped pastries.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the shaped makroud pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the makroud for about 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
Once baked, remove the makroud from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
While still warm, dip each makroud into honey or coat them with sugar syrup. Make sure they are evenly coated.
Sprinkle sesame seeds or chopped nuts on top of each makroud for extra flavor and presentation.
Allow the makroud to cool completely before serving. They are best enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee!
