Jamaican patties are a savory hand-held pie enjoyed in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean as a snack or light dinner. Similar to an empanada, they have a flaky crust and a delicious, seasoned filling. While beef is traditional, they are also available filled with chicken, seafood, lamb, vegetables, and several other fillings. Often the pastry and filling recipes are passed down from generation to generation.
This recipe is written to prepare snack size patties. For larger patties use a 5” cutter and increase filling in each patty.
