Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and gradually mix in the water to form a smooth dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it's elastic.
  3. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin rectangle on a floured surface.
  4. Using a knife or pastry cutter, cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long.
  5. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the dough strips in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the Fazuelos from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Dust the Fazuelos with powdered sugar while they are still warm.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
