Berlingozzo is a traditional Italian pastry that originated in Tuscany. This scrumptious treat is typically shaped like a donut or a ring, and it's made with flour, sugar, eggs, and sometimes flavored with lemon zest or anise.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the eggs, melted butter, lemon zest (if using), and vanilla extract. Mix well until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into a ring or donut shape, about 1 inch thick.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while you let the shaped dough rest for about 10 minutes.
Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until the Berlingozzo turns golden brown.
Once baked, remove the Berlingozzo from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
Once cooled, gently dust the Berlingozzo with powdered sugar.
