Ba Bao Yuanzi is a traditional Chinese dessert made from glutinous rice flour and filled with a sweet paste made from ingredients like red bean paste, lotus seed paste, or black sesame paste. It's then shaped into small balls and often served in a sweet syrup. It's a popular and delicious treat enjoyed in Chinese cuisine.
In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour with 1/2 cup of water. Knead the mixture until it forms a smooth dough. Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a marble.
Flatten each dough ball and place a small amount of red bean paste, lotus seed paste, or black sesame paste in the center. Seal the dough around the filling and roll it into a smooth ball.
In a separate pot, bring 3 1/2 cups of water to a boil. Add in the sugar and stir until dissolved.
Gently drop the filled dough balls into the boiling water. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the balls float to the surface.
Serve the Ba Bao Yuanzi in bowls with some of the cooking liquid as a sweet syrup.
