Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
All

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
  6. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make a few shallow slashes on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  7. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Let the bread cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
