Wienerbrød, also known as Danish pastry, is a sweet and flaky pastry typically made with laminated dough, butter, sugar, and various fillings such as fruit, custard, or nuts.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons filling (such as jam, custard, or almond paste)
  • 1 egg beaten, (for egg wash)
  • powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 equal squares.
  3. Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on each square, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar over the butter on each square.
  5. Place 1 tablespoon of your chosen filling in the center of each square.
  6. Fold the corners of the squares towards the center, slightly overlapping them to create a pinwheel shape.
  7. Brush the pastries with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  10. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  11. Enjoy!
