Orelletes are a traditional Spanish pastry made by deep frying dough and then sprinkling it with sugar. They are often enjoyed during festivals and celebrations.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • sugar additional for sprinkling

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the olive oil and milk to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into small rectangles or diamond shapes.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Fry the Orelletes in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the Orelletes from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  8. While still warm, sprinkle the Orelletes with sugar.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
