Fried butterflied shrimp is a popular dish where shrimp are butterflied (cut along the back and spread open), coated in breadcrumbs or batter, and then deep-fried until crispy and golden brown. It’s a delicious and crispy seafood dish that is often served as an appetizer or main course.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving, optional

Method
 

  1. Butterfly the shrimp by cutting along the back of each shrimp, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  2. In three separate bowls, place the flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the third.
  3. Dredge each shrimp in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (180°C).
  5. Fry the breaded shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve the fried butterflied shrimp hot with lemon wedges for squeezing over the top or your favorite dip if desired. Enjoy!
