Briwats
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
- 12 sheets phyllo dough
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook the ground meat, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture. Stir well to combine. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Stir in the chopped parsley into the meat mixture.
- Preheat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with butter again. Repeat with a third sheet.
- Cut the layered phyllo dough into 3 equal strips.
- Place a spoonful of the meat filling at the bottom of each strip. Fold the bottom corner of the strip over the filling to form a triangle, then continue folding the triangle up the strip until you reach the end.
- Brush the completed Briwat with more melted butter to seal the edges.
- Fry the Briwats in the hot oil until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the Briwats from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
