Pandesal is a popular and delicious bread roll in the Philippines. It is slightly sweet and often enjoyed as a breakfast or snack with some butter, cheese, or spread.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Breadcrumbs for coating

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, oil, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually stir in the flour until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces, shaping each into a ball.
  8. Roll each ball in breadcrumbs to coat.
  9. Place the coated balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each.
  10. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Serve warm and enjoy!
