For Masala Mackerel:
- 4 mackerel fillets
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp chili powder

For Daal:
- 1 cup split yellow lentils
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the turmeric, cumin, masala, coriander, chili powder, and salt. Rub the spice mixture onto the mackerel fillets and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the mackerel fillets and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In a separate pot, rinse the lentils and drain. Add enough water to cover the lentils and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the lentils are soft and fully cooked.
- In another pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the cumin and mustard seeds and cook until they start to pop. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened.
- Add the cooked lentils to the onion mixture and stir to combine. Add the garam masala and salt to taste.
