Yellow Rice-Indian
Ingredients
Method
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the turmeric powder and salt, then add the rinsed rice. Mix well to coat the rice with the spices.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and let it sit covered for a few more minutes to steam.
- Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro before serving.
- Enjoy!
